Voxels

I'm a fan of voxels. Hell, I might even have a practical use for them with my project. Anyways, I think support for Voxels would be great!

I think voxels are more efficient than a 3d model because they are like snapping legos together. Blood and Shadow warrior had support for poly-objects, but it was limited at best... Voxels where a good solution for the time I guess. Aliens Online also appears use voxels in some area's.

Everything in this image is rendered through use of VOXELS! :)

3d models have replaced sprites. Sure, sprites are generally better for menus and 2d overlays, but those are often vector rather than raster (which is probably the 'sprites' you're a fan of), but i wouldn't look at that limited use as any sort of victory for the sprite..
2d is a niche market, it just takes too damn long to produce commercial quality 2d work.

I didn't mean to sound temperamental, I just really hate it when people make crappy rips of 3d models for monsters, or weapons because they lack any ability to produce real art. I intend to change all that soon. :) The sprites in AVM will look fantastic. I will agree that 2-d art doesn't seem to not be as appreciated anymore, however 2-d was all the world had up until what the early 90's? Most of my favorite games used nothing but sprites.

Virtual Reality was around in the 80's, but limited to NASA, military, and medicial professions. Doom was never intended to support 3d models, if that's what you want then mess around with Quake. I am okay with using 3d models for weapons because it doesn't affect how the game is played. The few DOOM mods ive played with 3d models for monsters are pretty much crap. The death animations make me laugh! They fall over like cardboard cut outs..... Why go to all the trouble making "decent" models, and not finish your work?

I'd much rather see new high res sprites of the doom monsters, than N64 quality 3d effects! :)

Not to be too cruel, its good... Just not GOOD enough.

All apologies to those of you who've seen this stuff before.

This is Tom Dobrowolski's web page. There are all kinds of playable demos that use Ken Silverman's Voxelap engine.

You might also get a kick out of Ken Silverman's own web page. Ken is the creator of the build engine.
