Gamepad choice?

Postby Chronoteeth » Tue 18 Sep 2007 3:17 am

It would be nice to see edge having the ability to support joysticks and gamepads.

I'm not sure I understand the attraction to playing an FPS on a gamepad =p It's just awkward as all Hell (To me, that is of course.)

Depends what you're used to.
I started out playing FPS on consoles, so the first time I played a PC FPS I got the sh*t kicked out of me due to the awkwardness of having to use a mouse+keyboard combo :D

Now I'm fairly comfortable with both, though I still have a preference for a gamepad.

Mmm, so I see. I started out playing FPS's on the PC, but I got my first taste of up/down aiming from Goldeneye, some time ago, on the N64. I always found that control stick aiming was slower, and less precise than mouse aiming (Where you can move your hand faster, to get a faster response, or move slower, to get a more accurate response.) I can still run circles around my friends on those console shooters though! =p hehe

The fact is, a mouse is a point device, where as a joystick isn't, which makes the mouse an overall better choice.
I used to hate FPS on consoles, but lately my PS3 ownage has forced me into playing FPS games, and I?m now very comfortable with the control scheme, there is something cool about the symmetry of using both sticks simultaneously. I couldn?t imagine playing one on an Xbox; the weird misplaced first stick would feel so odd. But again, I?d probably warm to it after a while.

PS3? =p Lucky you, I probably won't be getting my hands on one of those for another few years, yet. Anyway, I suppose giving EDGE gamepad support would make it better for those console-playing wackos ;p
