"Dead" objects to remain hanging from the ceiling

I want to make a light, that when shot, extinguishes, but I can't figure out how to make the sprite continue to hang from the ceiling. I've tried all sorts of DDF gimcrackery without success. Can someone suggest a tricky fix?

I must be special, because I've looked endlessly at the portal demo map but can't figure out how the cameras work.
