I'm not just building an engine, I'm also going to make a whole new game with it ... Yes, correct, but any game has an engine, even Minesweeper has it's own (simple) engine. Just when you develop a program that does a simple "1+1", that's an engine. Simple and useless, but engine. In the ...

Yes, it sounds very promising. I'm not going to hold my breath for a release, but I'm also pretty patient with these things. I survived on just DeHackEd for over five years until anything beyond some simple hex edits could be done to the game engine. Especially with what will essentially be a Quake ...

EXCELLENT. SEE THIS THROUGH, BUDDY. MD3 models... yes, allow MDL too please if it's not too much hassle. :D Is there any way you could allow implementation of the Ghoul2 (GLM) model format? PK3 as well? Hell, ZDoom has it. (Not making comparisons, just saying it can be done in the Doom Engine, so a ...

Btw andrewj hows the quake 2 engine idea going? I have recently began work on it. It will use COAL for map/thing scripting and also HUD/UI scripting. It will probably use DDF for certain stuff (monsters and items in particular). It will have both software and OpenGL rendering, aiming at older compu...

R.I.P. Petrus T. Ratajczyk. I was personally a fan for quite a while, and Peter Steele was someone I admired greatly. I still respect him a lot, and it's a shame that this beast of a man had to go so young. Makes me want to listen to them again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgkBWZXVLyk One only ne...

Love your avatar and your sig. Are we the only two huge MJ fans that are doomers? I think so =) Haha, thanks. And yes, quite possibly. :P It's not entirely impossible for a new coder to start work. True, but it's highly unlikely. The EDGE community is, sadly, tiny. The amount of people in it that a...

Re: How do I do...

1.- Skybox (or simply Sky) Viewpoint? So I can change any sector's sky independently of the predefined Sky. 2.- Horizon Line. Is it possible to emulate it in an easy way? Thanks. 1. That's done through a map editor, if I'm not mistaken (Zdoom with Hexen config in DB2 I believe...) 2. Not sure what ...

Re: Max number of maps

What's the maximun number of maps EDGE supports? Can i have a PWAD with 9999999 maps? Or just 32 is the limit? Thanks in advance. In theory, there could be literally as many maps as you want. 32 is most certainly not the limit. Just, after MAP99, you'd need to come up with a new map name device (I ...

COAL HUD

All right, you guys implemented it for us to use. So can you explain it to us? I know literally no-one who is familiar with COAL coding, and I myself would like to get that aspect of my game out of the way. I'm not asking for an IN-DEPTH TUTORIAL, but some basic functions would be great.

I'm not saying we have to do these, but here's some ideas I'm just throwing out there; brainstorming, if you will: Somewhat cartoony, like Action DOOM 2: Urban Brawl . Draw some large, well-detailed sprites, then scale them down. - Episodic releases, perhaps (if that wasn't what was already planned)...

I think it may be worthwhile to maybe add some modern spin to it; reloading, angled weapons, maybe higher-quality sounds and music, destructible environment, etc. I'm actually working on a wad based on those aspects right now... maybe we could use it as a base. Here's the beta to download so you guy...
